چکیده

Abstract Telic monism in logic is the thesis that there one single philosophically primary goal to logic. A different way put it only canonical application This widely present—implicitly or more explicitly—in literature on philosophy of logic, yet has not been examined nor argued for extensively. In this paper I will present and critically examine telic monism. One prominent candidate namely formal codification logical consequence natural language, be challenged directly. The critique then generalized by appealing a practice-based general argument forth here claims we have no principled reason assume just Rather, claim plausible actually variety goals, purposes applications without them enjoying primacy over others. If succeeds, at least consequences allows kind pluralism previously deemed insignificant, instrumentalism.

Monism: the One True Logic

Logical pluralism is the claim that different accounts of validity can be equally correct. Beall and Restall have recently defended this position. Validity is a matter of truth-preservation over cases, they say: the conclusion should be true in every case in which the premises are true. Each logic specifies a class of cases, but differs over which cases should be considered. I show that this ac...

Logical Monism: The Global Identity of Applicable Logic

‘One universe, one logic’ takes the world as it is and leads to adjointness as the global logic of anything. The alternative approach to find a unification of known logics requires assumptions and is therefore consistent with the same conclusion for a universal logic has to be universally applicable. The universal characteristic of adjointness is that it has a natural construction from the conc...

The Telic Relationship in Compounds

The treatment of nominal compounds raises several problems for NLP. On the one hand the relationship between the head noun and the modifier can be implicit, such as in petrol gauge, where the gauge is an instrument that measures an amount of fuel. On the other hand this relationship can be ambiguous such as in release signal which can either refer to a signal which is activated when the release...

Neutral monism reconsidered

combinatorial relations between them simply come along for free. Which among all these abstract possibilities are concretely instantiated by physics, for example by genuine causal connections between objects? Russell readily admitted this criticism (Demopoulos & Friedman, 1989; Seager, 2006), but Newman is actually endorsing Russell’s real proposal for an enhanced physicalism, in which causal d...
